Long Beach Facelift Common Questions
Southern California Plastic Surgery Group
- Is a facelift the right procedure for me?
A facelift will smooth creases and wrinkles and remove sagging in the lower two thirds of your face, creating a more youthful and healthier appearance. It can also help if you have excess skin left over from massive weight loss. During your initial consultation Dr. Hicks can tell you if you are a good candidate for a facelift or if other procedures would better achieve you goals.
- Can I have other procedures when I have a facelift?
Yes. Many people choose to have other procedures in conjunction with a facelift to achieve their overall goals. Facial implants, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, and forehead lifts are all popular accompaniments to face lifts.
- How long does the surgery take?
A facelift can take several hours, and very extensive procedures may be performed in more than one session.
- Does a facelift leave scars?
Yes, every surgery leaves scars, but scars from a facelift will be hidden in your hair and in the natural creases of your face. They should be very minimal and hard to see if they’re visible at all.
- Are the results permanent?
Yes and no. A facelift will make you look years younger. It will not stop the natural effects of aging from continuing, but you will always look younger than you would have if you had not had the surgery.
- How long is the recovery period?
Physically, you’ll be up and getting around in a couple of days, but should avoid strenuous activity for at least two weeks. Swelling and bruising can be covered by makeup in about ten days to two weeks, and should no longer be visible after three weeks.
- Is a facelift painful?
Pain and discomfort from a facelift is minimal, and Dr. Hicks will prescribe pain medication to minimize it further. Sleeping at a 45 degree angle will also help to minimize swelling and pain.
