Long Beach Liposuction Common Questions
Southern California Plastic Surgery Group
- Is liposuction is right for me?
Liposuction is not a weight loss tool, but it can remove stubborn areas of fat which have not responded to diet and exercise. If you are of normal weight, in good health, and have specific pockets of fat you would like to reduce, liposuction can help you. Each situation is unique. Dr. Hicks can help you decide if liposuction is the right procedure for you.
- Is liposuction safe?
Yes. Like any surgery, liposuction carries some risks, but complications are rare. A more extensive procedure will increase the risks of complications. If you are in good overall health and have realistic expectations liposuction is a safe and positive procedure.
- Can I have liposuction combined with another procedure?
Yes. People often choose to have liposuction as a part of other procedures such as a facelift or breast reduction.
- Will liposuction remove cellulite?
No. liposuction will improve body contour and in some cases may reduce the appearance of cellulite, but it is not a treatment for cellulite.
- Does liposuction leave scars?
Scars from liposuction are very small and hard to detect. Dr. Hicks will make every effort to make them as inconspicuous as possible.
- Are the results permanent?
Yes. The fat cells removed with liposuction will not grow back. Liposuction will not prevent you from gaining weight, but weight gained will be distributed throughout your body, and you should retain your new contours.
- How long is the recovery period?
You will be able to resume light activities in two days to two weeks depending on the extent of the procedure. Strenuous activities should be avoided for two weeks to one month.
- Is liposuction painful?
You will be sore for a few days. You may experience a burning sensation or you may actually have some numbness. Dr. Hicks will prescribe pain medication to minimize any discomfort.
