Tumescent Liposuction

 Tumescent liposuction is a liposuction technique which reduces bruising, swelling, pain, and bleeding.
During tumescent liposuction the areas of fat to be removed are injected with a large amount of liquid. This makes the fat swollen and firm, or, tumesced. This tumescence allows the cannula to move smoothly and easily beneath the skin, reducing trauma and minimizing the need for blood transfusion.
Ideal candidate
Tumescent liposuction is appropriate for anyone who is a good candidate for traditional liposuction. You may prefer this technique if you want to remove fat from areas that require precision, such as the face and neck, or from larger areas such as the buttocks or abdomen.
The procedure
Tumescent liposuction may be performed under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia and a sedative.
A solution containing lidocaine to numb the area, epinephrine to shrink the capillaries, and saline solution (salty water) is injected into the area where fat is to be removed. This causes the fat to be swollen and firm. Liposuction is then performed on these areas.
Recovery
Pain will be minimal because the anesthesia in the injected solution is long lasting. Dr. Hicks will prescribe pain medication if necessary.
* Treated areas will be swollen and fluid may drain from the incision sites for a few
days.
* Light activities may be resumed in a few days, and you should avoid strenuous
activities for a few weeks.
* Most of the welling will subside in three weeks, though it can take up to three
months for it all to subside so that you can see the final results.
