Ideal Candidate for Liposuction

The procedure will not address weight problems, but can be the final touch after weight loss. It is important to have realistic expectations and truly understand what the surgery can accomplish. Before you decide to have liposuction, discuss your expectations and desired end results openly with Dr. Hicks.
The best candidates for liposuction want to enhance their look and understand that the surgery will not necessarily produce a perfect figure. If you are physically healthy and have realistic expectations, you may be a good candidate.
Characteristics of the ideal candidate include:
* Normal weight
* Firm elastic skin
* Good circulation
* Good physical health
* Psychologically stable
* 18 years or older
* Realistic expectations
* Not pregnant or nursing
Liposuction will not correct cellulite or loose, hanging skin and is not appropriate for obese patients. However, there are other solutions for these problems.
If you’re not an ideal candidate
Dr. Hicks will thoroughly assess your unique situation and recommend alternative treatments. such as a tummy tuck. If you’ve recently had surgery in the area where liposuction is planned, you’ll be advised to postpone the procedure. Liposuction is not appropriate if you have poor circulation in the area, or if you have heart or lung disease or clotting disorders.
Smokers will be advised to quit smoking before surgery and during the recovery phase, to minimize the risk of complications and speed recovery time.
